"SI joint dysfunction leads to muscle strain and often presents as low back pain."
Young or old, active or sedentary, back pain is extremely common and is often related to SI joint dysfunction of some sort. The SI joint is located between the sacrum of the spine and the ilium of the pelvis and connects the hip to the spinal column. SI joint dysfunction leads to muscle strain and often presents as low back pain.
SI joint pain is often underdiagnosed and undertreated in patients experiencing back pain. At Physical Therapy of Wimberley, we take this seriously and consider SI joint dysfunction when assessing back pain in all of our patients. After all, physical therapy is considered to be an effective frontline treatment option for SI joint pain and low back pain alike. If you are experiencing any low back pain, don’t be surprised if it is related to your SI joints.
